Wi-Fi the Border

Wi-Fi the border.

It is an unsatisfied need; unsatisfied need of the entire world.

Israel needs it; India needs it; Pakistan needs it.

Above all, United States need it.
Texas. Arizona. California.
All the border states need it.

So, Wi-Fi the border.
Then install the motion sensor; calibrate to capture the movement of high speed explosive materials.
Or the movement of human beings across the border from Mexico to US.

The sensors should capture information such as:

  • direction of the moving object
  • speed of the moving object
  • timestamp
  • and all other related information
Send the information to the cloud.
You shall subscribe for alerts.

For India & Pakistan border, capture information in real time and post it on the web.
So, United Nations could monitor the violations.
Now, no statistics are available.
People show the bullet mark on the wall or on the tree.
No good.

So, capture relevant information in real time.
Stop there. Don't go beyond that.

Then you may start building Ronald Reagan Star Wars.
Without any soldiers on the ground, weapons on the border responds automatically for any challenge.

Shankar & Rajnikanth could help you in building robots.
Robots soldiers protect the borders.

For this project, a lot of technology professionals may go into the field for installation.
They may feel refreshed; freedom from their cubical workspace.

So, just go with Wi-Fi; sensors; cloud; mobile handsets.
Information would start flow in real time.

Israel has money to invest on this mega project.
Perhaps Hollywood or Bombay or Tamil Film industry could come up with a story.

For stories, we need dramatic events.
So, the software professionals gave up their boring technology and start playing with weapons.
Love story across the border for those software professionals.

Defense could turn into a huge hi-tech industry.
Let the robots fight with each other across the border and cause damage to the neighbors.
There will be no blood shed. It will be just non-violence war.
It may cause economical damage.
Building robots, wi-fi, and other infrastructure may be a huge investment.

Security motion sensors with Wi-Fi connectivity is now available in the market.

Their technology could be extended to international borders; right now, their marketing vision is limited to home and its surroundings.
The motion sensor could sense all moving objects; and register the event with the access point.

Then access point could trigger all other sensors:

  • a sensor to capture the velocity of the moving object.
  • another sensor to capture the direction
  • also the  geo location of the moving object for every milliseconds
  • that could enable to predict the landing geo location; the target.
  • one sensor could capture the physical dimension of the moving object
  • height; width; shape
  • based on the physical dimension, you could take action
  • you can ignore moving animals; flying birds
To start with, just capture the events and other information; don't plan for any corrective action.

If Google could explore driverless cars on the road; you could certainly build a border without any soldiers.

Right now, whether it is road or the border; there has been a lot of human errors.
With building intelligent systems; we could minimise the human errors.

Internet of Things

More things are being connected to address a growing range of business needs. In fact, by 2020, more than 50 billion things will connect to the Internet—seven times our human population. Examples are wearable health and performance monitors, connected vehicles, smart grids, connected oilrigs, and connected manufacturing. This Internet of Things (IoT) will revolutionize the way we work, live, play, and learn.

Cisco could provide safe, secure, military standard networking systems. Now, Cisco offers both Cloud as well as Fog computing.

Fog computing is flexible and agile; it responds to crisis and emergency. For instance, smart traffic lights. A video camera senses an ambulance's flashing lights and then automatically changes streetlights for the vehicle to pass through traffic.

Also through Fog Computing, sensors on self-maintaining trains can monitor train components. If they detect trouble, they send an automatic alert to the train operator to stop at the next station for emergency maintenance.

Now, Fog Computing could be extended to border security.

xively

Xively’s Platform as a Service (PaaS) provides the tools and services needed to create compelling products and solutions on the Internet of Things.

This is the best demonstration for real time data acquisition.

What do you see here is the room temperature of the place, where I work. It is in Silicon Valley. But the whole world could access this information.

Likewise, you should be able to get real time information from your border. They built a platform and offer that platform as a service to you. Both enemies across the borders could make use of these global services.  United Nations also could have an access to these real time information from the border.

These technologies could be extended to monitoring rivers like Ganges, Mississippi, Jelam, Sindu, Nile, Brahmaputra too and could predict floods and its damages.

These technologies could be extended to monitor the real time movement of cyclone and other natural disasters. For the people; citizens on the ground; based on their geo-locations, the app could give the warning. If the geo-location is close to the cyclone area, the warning could be 'you will be dead in another ten minutes.' So log out of Facebook and run to safe places.

So, in this emerging period, one individual or one company could solve a problem. It needs collaborative efforts of all players.

Right now, all men have their eyes closed and sense the elephant and interpret with their own perception. It's time, all men and women need to keep open all their senses and see the whole elephant. (Thanks to that seven blind men and elephant moral story)

  1. Always there has been a gap between technologists and users.

The users always have 'unsatisfied needs'; but they assume that no technology is available to satisfy their 'unsatisfied needs.'

Technologists and scientists confine themselves within their lab or workshop. They have no idea about the 'unsatisfied wants and needs' of the users.

Someone has to bridge this gap; who could understand both sides; who understands the emerging technology; as well as growing demands of the people; not just one region; entire universe. These people are known as 'innovation consultants.'

    So, the players are: technology companies; innovation consultants; governments;
