Fitness Center for Parliamentarians

Fitness Center for MLA in Tamilnadu

It is like any other gym at the MLAs Hostel in the city. It comprises an array of fitness equipment such as the treadmill, cycle and elliptical cross trainers, and a music system. But what sets it apart from other gyms is that this fitness unit will cater exclusively to the State’s 17 women legislators.

The fitness centre for women MLAs was inaugurated on Wednesday morning by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Situated in Block C of the MLA Hostel Building in Chepauk, the gym spans 550 sqft, inclusive of a washroom. Two treadmills, an elliptical cross trainer, one massage equipment and one twister adorn the centre.

A women trainer has been appointed to supervise the workout sessions, said a senior officer of the maintenance department in the hostel.

The gym has been constructed at a cost of `16 lakh, inclusive of equipment worth `6 lakh, false-ceiling, air-conditioners and venetian blinds.

Wealth is nothing.
Health is something.
Character is everything.

Nowadays, we don't look at Ramayana or Mahabharata.
We refer only modern management books.
Even there also; they value the character of integrity the most; then health; then only wealth.

But we are stuck with development; development is our new mantra.
When we say development; we don't refer to character development.
All we refer to is: economic development.

Now, with Gopinath Munde's death, our focus is now shifted to health.

MLA & MPs health is very important.
We are not looking from any mankind or humanity perspective.
MLA & MP health is primary concern for our democracy.
The country may land in serious chaos and crisis situation; if there is an earthquake in New Delhi.

What will happen, if 100 of our MP travel in an aeroplane and that crash into ocean.
First and foremost issue is: absolute majority would be gone.
So, health of our MP is very critical.

In Tamilnadu, there used to be frequent by-elections.
And those by-elections happen to be very hectic and take away all the energy.
Tirumangalam by-election is one of the most important one.

Now, Tamilnadu MLA take good care of their health. So, by-election is very much avoided. It is a huge saving for the nation. Conducting be-election is the most challenging one.

Earlier, the British officers used to come to India. Those British officers, most of them from poor family background. But, here in India, they got a minimum of five servants to take good care of them.

In fact, Winston Churchill said; the servants he had in Bangalore, was the best cabinet. They knew their responsibilities and delivered the best performance.

India is kind of hot weather for them; so they used to start their day early in the morning and go back home around 11; then they start the office work in the evening and it may go up to 8 pm.

These British officers did very less physical work; but enjoyed tasty indian food and wine. The fact, many British officers died in heart attack; because of lack of physical activities.

So, there should be periodic health check-up for our parliamentarians.

Election commission also have to pre-screen the candidate for health check. They should examine the candidate and make sure that they are medically fit to serve in the parliament.

For any profession, we do medical check-up.
For parliamentarians, we need to have some standards about physical health.

Election commission may disqualify the candidates on health condition.

So, don't just go after the power and wealth.
Take care of your health.

If you ignore your health, people surrounding you would love it.
Your bad health is an innovative opportunity to them.

So, nobody else is going to take care of your health.
Your health is in your hand.
